001 540 07 17 – Mercedes-Benz Brake Pad Wear Sensor

Description

001 540 07 17 – Mercedes-Benz Brake Pad Wear Sensor
The Brake Pad Wear Sensor is a single-pole contact sensor integrated into the disc brake pad assembly. Its primary function is to serve as a sacrificial wear indicator for the vehicle’s braking system. The sensor head is embedded into a slot within the brake pad friction material. When the brake pads wear down to a critical thickness (typically 2-3mm), the sensor’s internal contact pin makes physical contact with the brake rotor. This contact completes an electrical circuit to the vehicle’s chassis ground, which triggers the brake wear warning indicator on the dashboard. This part is essential for maintaining braking safety and preventing damage to the rotors by ensuring pads are replaced before reaching a metal-on-metal state. This sensor is a ‘one-time-use’ item that must be replaced once triggered or whenever new brake pads are installed.
